Searching for the Orb

Image
With Skonn and Baphomet turned to stone, Arnogall quietly slipped out of the tavern heading to the docks to find Smiley and the Hippogriffs.  This left Aubrey, Balderpoor and Sorin in the tavern with the patrons still looking from them to the wanted poster and back.  A few moments later six heavily armed guards entered together with a well dressed merchant.  The merchant accused Aubrey and Skonn of stealing from him.  The lead guard questioned the party and was minded to throw them into a jail cell.  However, on learning they were on Lord's Alliance business he quickly backed down.  The merchant threatened revenge and left.  A paladin watching the whole exchange vouched for the party explaining he too was on Lord's Alliance business.  He introduced himself at Lucan the Awoken and offered to help them retrieve the orb they sought. The party rented rooms and Aubrey sought out Laura, a Kobold lady of the night he'd previously encountered.  She...

Killed the dragon but still petrified

(Scroll for tl;dr) As Skonn, Sorin, Arnogall, Baldepoor, Aubrey and Baphomet took their seats in the speaker’s dining room, the members of the town council drifted in. Speaker Wiston introduced them one by one: Delora Zann (Human, Female): Once a member of the famed Golden Drake  Company, a band of renowned adventurers.  She  retired to Drellin’s Ferry some years  ago.  Iormel (Human, Male): A wealthy landowner who has been on the Town  Council for thirty years or more. Kellin Shadowbanks (Halfling, Male): Head of the Shadowbanks clan and proprietor of the Old Bridge Inn. Captain Soranna Anitah (Human Male): Leader of the Town Guard, captain of the militia, and chief constable. A former merchants’ guard captain who travelled widely before settling in Drillin’s Ferry. Wisto n set the scene, showing the council members the map and letter that The Adventurers ™ had discovered. “Well, now you all know why we’re here.   In a ma...

Dancing With Mr. D

Image
(Scroll for tl;dr) Back on the river, Smiley, Baphomet, Jarlier and Wolfgang were still on the keelboat slowly making their way to Yartar. They were arguing over who was in charge because Sorin had taken the captain’s hat with him. Baphomet decided to leave and find the other Adventurers ™ while the other three continued to bicker .  Taking a hippogriff he flew via Yartar and Drillin’s Ferry to Wrath Keep.  Soaring through the night sky he approached Wrath Keep.  As he descended, a manticore flew past causing the hippogriff to panic but they managed to land safely. Baphomet flew through the open roof, landing in the keep courtyard finding the others exploring an underground vault hidden in the keep.  The vault housed three gated alcoves, each locked with a chain and padlock.  Slumped outside one of the alcoves was a human skeleton.  Skonn took a closer look and found a glimmering greatsword that was cold to the touch and a pair of ornate gauntlets. ...

Werewolf head anyone?

Image
Scroll for tl;dr A cool wind blew across the ground and a hippogriff reared up and screeched. The ground began to tremble and two earth elementals burst up from the dirt road between the party and the gallows. The full moon rose and the noose around Ulhro Luruth suddenly burst, he dropped to his knees and when he rose his head, he let out a blood curdling howl. The werewolf attacked Baphomet and knocked him unconscious but the beast’s bite did not infect him with its curse.  After that however the werewolf seemed to run around rather ineffectually and was taunted by the party as they took to the skies on their hippogrifffs.  The earth elementals proved far tougher and as the party fought them, a great beast ridden by a human burrowed up from the ground.  While the battle raged the rider picked up Tantaur’s corpse, threw it on the beast and burrowed away again.   The werewolf was easily dealt with but the elementals proved tough adversaries until Jarl...

Hanging is too good for them

(Scroll for tl;dr) In Jeremy’s magic shop, Smiley noticed that his pet rat Mousey, was going berserk. Jeremy had been telling them about the Grove of Rebirth and that the druid there could bring people back from the dead. Smiley pulled the rodent from his pocket and Mousey escaped his grip.  He ran for the door behind the counter and started scratching it.  Mousey could sense the presence of gold.  Smiley went into the back room finding only a table, chair and heavy iron door.  Mousey ran towards the iron door and scratched at it so much that its claws were bleeding.  Jeremy was angry and drawing his longsword demanded Smiley return to the shop, which he did. The party noticed that Aubrey had put on a new hat and was now claiming to be a wizard.  They let him tag along as they had lacked a skilled magic user.  However, some in the party felt they still lacked a skilled magic user.  Leaving the shop they returned to Feathergale Spire, picked ...

Blitzkrieg!

Image
From the tombs, The Adventurers headed back to the Air Portal with Skonn leading the way. They were approached by a cultist called Aubrey Marblebelly who was having second thoughts about being in the cult and wanted out.  He asked the party to help him escape. Skonn was reluctant and eventually tied Audrey up declaring he had another prisoner to sacrifice.  Whilst Skonn marched off, Drowyn searched some long abandoned shops for armour to replace his damaged set.  Baphomet and Jarlier joined him and they were attacked by a winged creature, which would bite and hold onto its prey, temporarily blinding and suffocating them.  The creature hid behind some rubble and when Drowyn peered over he saw three of the things.  At that point the heroes turned and ran, catching up with the others at the prisoner holding area in the howling caves.   Skonn told the priests he intended to complete the ritual and the party returned to the Air Portal with...

Spelunking and Black Puddings

Image
After taking Aerisi's spear, Jarlier also took a torc, four rings and a diadem from where she fell.  The Adventurers donned the cultists robes and ventured down the stairs, finding the cultists in the great hall were no longer floating and meditating.  They asked the party what had happened to Aerisi before one of them spotted that Jarlier was carrying Aerisi’s spear. "Look, he carries Windvane."  "The heir of the air," another exclaimed, "tell us your bidding oh Lord." Jarlier, confused at the outburst, asked why they were here and what was down the shaft in the middle of the room.  They did not know as only the fully initiated cultists went down there, though they never came back. Skonn and Baphomet jumped down the shaft with little hesitation.  Their fall was slowed by both a strong upward gale of air and their Featherfall cloaks; the descent seemed to take an age.  The others eventually followed finding themselves in a cave with gory bo...

The Magic Shop, finally!

Image
The gnome cleared his throat and said, "Welcome to Jeremy's magic shop. How may I help you?" Inside the shop there was barely enough room for the party to stand. It was difficult to move around without the party catching themselves on each other's armour or weapons. Behind Jeremy were various strange items. While most items were intriguing they were also expensive. A potion of supreme healing caught their attention after Jeremy confirmed it could heal Baphomet's missing eye. While they checked if they had the 1350 gold pieces it cost, Baphomet waved away their generous gesture. He said he was fine and and getting used to the lack of depth perception. Instead they bought four standard healing potions. After Jeremy disappeared into the back room a few times he reappeared with a few more affordable items. Once he learnt the party intended to fight evil he offed them discount on all of his items and even gave them back some gold.  Skonn purchased a longsword with ...

The Manticore Jigsaw

Image
As the sun set on the Sighing Valley below, Arnogall, Drowyn, Jarlier, Skonn, Smiley and Sorin readied themselves for the manticore hunt. Thurl Merosska, Lord Commander of the Feathergale Society had provided six hippogriffs for The Adventurers to ride. "Manticores are dangerous creatures. You may want to pick up your friends in Red Larch before facing the beast. The hippogriffs could have you there and back in no time," Thurl suggested. Hippogriff The group decided to split in two with Skonn, Arnogall and Smiley attempting to find the manticore while Drowyn, Jarlier and Sorin flew to Red Larch to retrieve Baphomet, Balderich and Kilnaar. Four Feathergale Knights, riding giant vultures, also set off on the hunt but The Adventurers chose not to hunt with them. Skonn, Arnogall and Smiley began their search for the manticore but instead found a giant vulture eating carrion on the rocks below while four perytons circled above. They chose to move on. They flew ove...

On The Rocks

Image
The adventurers made short work of the Bringers of Woe and the battle seemed one sided until a cultist took out a fist sized stone and rolled it across the ground.   It seemed to melt into the stone floor.  The fight continued, tremors could be felt and a huge creature made of rock and earth rose from the ground.  It pounded and pulverised the party.  Weapons seemed to bounce off it causing little damage with only Drowyn's magic greataxe causing significant damage.   Smiley and Adran fled in terror and were not seen again.  Sorin was the first to fall, with Kilnaar, Arnogal and Skonn also being knocked unconscious.  Little by little the party chipped away at the beast and eventually destroyed it.  Droywn and Kilnaar healed up the rest of the party the best they could.  Skonn bellowed at the injured to get better and believed his healing powers had worked again. In the meele one of the cultists had fled.  Skonn sea...

Displease not the Delvers

Image
The party returned to the Swinging Sword Inn in Red Larch and toasted their success at the necromancer's cave.  A fearsome looking Dragonborn knight watched them from a shadowy corner.  Drowyn approached him and after a little conversation invited the knight to join them.  He agreed and introduced himself as Kilnaar Baharoosh. The barkeep told the party that the shepherdess who had told them about the Necromancer's cave would come the Inn in a few hours.  In the meantime the party went back to Ironhead Arms to buy more equipment. Ironhead told them that they might hear more rumors of strange goings on at the Boarding House.  Baphomet annoyed Ironhead but the party managed to haggle good prices.  The party then went to the Smithy to question the blacksmith about the disappearance of his daughter Bess.  The blacksmith explained that Bess had always been a difficult child and often refused to do her chores helping in the shop.  When this happ...

Double Trouble

Image
The party moved through the workshop, deeper into the cave system.  While exploring, Bamophet, the tiefling rogue, suddenly realised that he had not been getting a fair share of the treasure the party had found.  He grumpily raised this and was given some extra gold. The passage opened out into a long gallery and ahead a large man was chained to the floor wearing nothing but a bear skin cloak.  Drowyn, the dwarven cleric, who had been fastidiously checking for traps, threw caution to the wind and walked up to the man; stepping on a pressure plate in the process.  The two side walls slowly started to close in and iron doors dropped down at both exits. The party managed to stop the walls by wedging random items in the small gap between the walls, breaking two crowbars, a dagger, a quarterstaff and a battleaxe in the process.  With the imminent danger addressed they released the man and questioned him.  He was Skonn a human barbarian who had been captured by t...

Dissent in the Ranks

Image
Before the party ventured deeper into the cavern, Bamophet rejoined the group having found Smiley's note.  He was accompanied by a new friend called Jarlier a human fighter.  Jarlier was well turned out but in his finery he looked a little out of place in a zombie infested cavern.  He assured the party he could handle himself. With reinforcements the party delved deeper into the cave.  Ahead, in another large cavern they could see three zombies.  Dressed as a jester, a bear and a lady they seemed to be acting out some unidentifiable macabre scene. This did not distract the adventurers who slashed, pierced and bludgeoned the zombies into submission.  One zombie was unrelenting and arose twice from defeat before being eternally vanquished.  Balderich, the human fighter, took the wig from the lady zombie.  Why? Only time will tell. Deeper into the caves they ventured.  It was at this point the wizard Adran's fingers started to get itchy....
